When you write an application letter it is your first contact or conversation with the employer. The application gives him a chance to judge if you are suitable for the job or not. It is important to take time and care of your application so that it is simple but unique. All the information given in the application must be clear, easy to read and understand. There are many ways you can write a letter, one way is to mention your address, phone number and the date on the letter. You should always address the letter to the person named in the address. If you don’t know the name just mention Sir or Madam.

    You must keep in mind the following things while writing a job application letter,

  • Find out everything possible about the job and the company.

  • Refer where you saw the advertisement.

  • Inform about the previous work or experience you have .

  • Give your telephone no. so that it is easy to communicate if needed.

  • Close the letter by telling how you are suitable for the job and in what way you can benefit the company.

  • See that your letter starts with Sir/Madam and end it with Yours faithfully.

  • Write your name in bold and sign across that.

  • Check for spellings and grammar. Tell someone else to read it before finally submitting it.

  • Get it typed on clean A4 paper if you can as it looks more neat.

Divide the letter into paragraphs according to the points included into it.

  • Paragraph 1: Reveal the purpose of writing the letter. Also give the source from where you came to know about the vacancy.

  • Paragraph 2: Underline your strong qualifications that match the position requirements. Give your previous experiences and accomplishments.

  • Paragraph 3: Convince the employer that you have all the qualities and are better than anyone else for the position.

  • Paragraph 4: Request him to give you a chance of interview so that you can discuss more about the post . Show appreciation to the reader for the time and consideration he took to read the letter.

The cover letter should be brief and to the point. A cover letter is just to mention that you are applying for which position and the materials enclosed with the application. You must prepare the cover letter yourself. Do not take the already available cover letters from the sites. Try and make no mistakes in the cover letter. Always make the cover letter on Microsoft word.

If you want your cover letter to truly impress the interviewer then be sure that you use best paper and the content written on that must be spell checked twice or thrice so that there is no way that you can be rejected. Let the font of the cover letter be formal such as Arial. Don’t use colors or a colorful paper. Keep the cover letter short so that it comes in one page in length. Never fold the cover letter and resume. Make extra copies so that if you apply for the same position in the future you can make some changes in them and then use them.

The cover letter surely makes a difference in this fast pace life. Many of us are so busy preparing for the interviews that we are left with no time to prepare cover letters. So keep them prepared before hand. Your interest and creativity will pay off some day.
