Sample Business Legal Letters

A business legal letter is a legally binding letter written by a business to an individual or to another business.

From accepting office-space lease terms to advising another business to cease and desist from violating intellectual property rights, the business legal letter has many uses.

Because it may almost always be legally binding, a business legal letter is usually handled by the legal department of a business entity, a law firm or an independent lawyer/counsel.

Legalese is to be expected in most business legal letters. The less routine the subject of the letter, the more overarching and complicated the letter may turn out to be.

Drafts and redrafts are common as this type of legal letter is usually reviewed and approved by more than just one individual. Inclusions and exclusions at the eleventh hour are expected and commonplace occurrences.

The business legal letter must always be prepared by a lawyer/counsel or a professional writer with a background in law. Attempts to write one by a novice or layperson may undermine the legality of the communication and prove disastrous even years if not decades later.

Write this type of letter for any situation in which you are communicating business-related legal information. You will likely need to modify this letter sample at least somewhat so that it most closely matches what you want to communicate. Include in your letter any pertinent details.
